So… Ilm Summit is this week, and of course, it’s amazing.
I’m on page 6/10 of the Tafseer notes for Surah Fussilat. Definitely worth your time to read through them, especially if you want some Da’wah tips from the Qur’an itself. Sh. AbdulNasir gave the class and you already know how mind-blowingly awesome the Bayyinah instructors are mashaAllah so you should read it! :) I haven’t gotten to the other class notes yet but I plan to inshaAllah. Find the rest of them here as the students post them. And here’s last years Ilm Summit Notes thread. May Allah reward the students taking for these notes and sharing the khayr. Ameen.
SubhanAllah, Ayah 24 just leaves you with so much to think about. Allahumma ajirni minannar! At least in this world, whether you are a believer or a disbeliever, patience still gets you somewhere. Even if one day goes horribly or if things fall apart all of a sudden, non-Muslims can at least hope for a better day and try to make their situation better. Alhumdulillah, we are able to ask Allah directly and it is only through eeman and tawakkul that we place full trust in Allah alone to take care of our affairs. But can you imagine a day where patience gets you absolutely no where..May we never experience such a day! In dunya, no matter what we’re going through, there’s still a level of comfort we get from knowing that Allah is there for us and that we have the support of those around us. In Jahannum, there’s literally no one. Absolutely no hope that the next day might get better or that the punishment would be lessened even by a fraction. The inhabitants will see their leaders and their idols with them, suffering the same fate as them. They’ll see the angels at the gates who won’t give them a second look or listen to any of their grievances. In dunya, at least we know that Allah rewards us for our patience in enduring whatever trial we are put in but I can’t even fathom how the people of hell fire will put up with the psychological torment of constantly waiting and anticipating an end to the heat, only to find that it increases over time. La hawla wala quwwata illa billah. (Read and repeat>>)Allahumma ajirni minannar.
The ayaat in Surah Ghafir came to mind so I might as well post some notes from the Surah:
Think about these words from different angles
(And those in the Fire will say to the keepers (angels) of Hell: “Call upon your Lord to lighten for us the torment for a day!”)
1. They didn’t ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, they asked the keepers of Jahannam to make dua for them, Because Allah had told them,
[اخْسَئُواْ فِيهَا وَلاَ تُكَلِّمُونِ]
(Remain you in it with ignominy! And speak you not to Me!)
So they saw themselves that they are not worthy of asking Allah and supplicate to Him rather they invoke to Him via intermediate.
2. They said ”Call upon your Lord”, and didnt say Call upon our Lord because their faces and hearts cannot comprehend or say ”Our Lord”, they are in the state of shame and humility that they see themselves unworthy of claiming the Lordship of Allah to them rather they said ”Your Lord”.
3. They didn’t say remove from us the punishment but they said (Lighten) because they are (Allah’s refuge is sought) despair from the Mercy of Allah.
4. They didn’t say lighten the punishment for us forever rather they said ”For a Day”, only one day.
From this it is clear that they are in state of severe punishment, shame and humiliation,
“And you will see them brought forward to it (Hell) made humble by disgrace, (and) looking with stealthy glance. And those who believe will say: “Verily, the losers are they who lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection.” Verily, the wrongdoers will be in a lasting torment.”

.اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْـتَنِي وَ عَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي
Allâhumma infa‘nî bimâ ‘allamtanî wa ‘allimnî ma yanfa‘unî.
Oh Allah, Make useful for me what You taught me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me.
