Istiqaamah

Salamualaykum,

One of my friends posted this on buzz, SubhanAllah it’s very practical. :) May Allah make us steadfast in our ‘ilm and ‘ibadah. Ameen.

How to have Istiqaamah from Imam Suhaib:
1- Have a strong relationship with Allah, the best way is with His Wahy. Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah said, If you want to taste the sweetness of emaan, then upon you is the Book of Allah.
2- Have a strong relationship with His worship. The da’ee needs to pray his sunnahs and he better be praying witr.
3- Have good friends that will support you, motivate you and are not negative. The scholars say it is not nifaaq if a person’s Islam and emaan is better when they are around righteous friends because this is part of the sunnah of our deen, Allah says: And keep yourself patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His Face; and let not your eyes overlook them. (18:28)
4- Choose a good spouse who will make this your focus and remind you. The Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam gave us the example of the wife who would sprinkle water on her husband’s face to wake him up for tahajjud, and likewise the husband who would do the same to his wife.
5- Read the stories of the pious people. read the seerah of the Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam, of the Companions, of those who followed them and the righteous. You will see that your struggles compared to theirs is nothing. You see that Allah gave them strength, and it will give you strength.
6- Work in a group – don’t be a solo artist. Shaytan will always try to get you to leave the community, but he will never get you to join one.

#5 Reminds me of the hadith–‘If one of you is afflicted with a calamity, then let him remember his calamity by me (i.e., by my death); for indeed, it is the greatest of calamities. These few words have gotten me through many(seemingly) big problems in life. Alhumdulillah.

Allāhumma Innī As’aluka hubbaka Wa hubba Man Yuhibbuka Wa hubba cAmalin Yuqarribunī Ilā hubbika

O Allah, I ask You for Your Love, and the love of whoever loves You, and the love of deeds that will bring me closer to Your Love.
